In 2009, the ELCA offered the Statement on Human Sexuality addressing same-gender relationships. This has moved some of us in the ELCA further towards affirmation of our LGBTQ+ siblings, but many can struggle to apply a Lutheran interpretation of the Scriptures as they relate to the LGBTQ+ community.
Reconciling Works: Lutherans for Full Participation published a commentary which addresses eight of the so-called “clobber passages” used to exclude LGBTQ+ people from the body of Christ, and finishes with eight Bible passages that offer inclusive and expansive understandings of the nature of God’s welcome. We will review and discuss these passages with the hope that these interpretations, based in scripture and tradition, may lead us to a deeper understanding of our LGBTQ+ siblings in Christ while still valuing the wide range of opinions and deeply held beliefs on the topic.
Classes will be held Sundays during adult education hour from 9:15-10:15am in the Luther Room, beginning on March 8. Hope to see you there!
